"He that demands mercy and shows none, ruins the bridge over which he himself must pass." (Thomas Adams)

"The the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all the debt of yours because you begged me to. Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed." (Matthew 18:32-34).

The Necessity of Thankfulness

Psalm 50
The Lord has no need of my sacrifices or anything else I can offer Him. He already owns all things (vv. 8-12). My only appropriate response to God, who created and owns all things, is thankfulness. "He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me, and he prepares the way so that I may show him the salvation of God." (v. 23). Gratitude acknowledges that I have nothing and He has everything I need and has graciously given to me all that I need. His gift of mercy is new every morning!
